Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete (C) talked with unidentified officials at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) special summit on Madagascar in Johannesburg on June 21, 2009. The summit, called over the army-backed ouster of Marc Ravalomanana, also resolved to expediate mediation efforts and facilitate talks. Madagascar, which was suspended from the bloc in March, had no official representation but fallen leader Ravolamanana held informal bilateral talks with several participants.
