Shein Rais mpya wa Zanzibar
Tuesday, 02 November 2010 02:23

CCM to tap skills from Tanzanians in diaspora
CCM to tap skills from Tanzanians in diaspora
From MARC NKWAME in Arusha, 17th October 2010 @ 12:06 , Total hits: 73
THE CCM Union presidential running mate, Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, said here that his government intends to tap skills and resources from Tanzanians living and working abroad.
Addressing a series of campaign rallies in Arusha, Mr Bilal stated that there were more potential skills, resources and even wealth to be tapped from the Diaspora and should CCM win, then Mr Jakaya Kikwete’s government will ensure that all Tanzanians living overseas are fully involved in catalyzing the country’s development.
‘’It is high time that Tanzania started making use of her people spread around the globe, most of them are highly skilled people who could help in both leadership and executing development projects here, others have wealth and resources that they are eager to share with their countrymen but have no idea how to go about it, we intend to establish a special system that will connect us with them,’’ the CCM’s aspiring vice-president said.
Dr Bilal, who is a nuclear scientist by profession, knows how to go about it: ‘’We have already started working towards connecting Tanzania with the entire world digitally via fibre optic cable to enable faster and easy communications and already many regions have been connected while more efforts to network the rest are going on.
‘’We intend to ensure that young children attend kindergarten schools as the foundation for their early education, pupils who start learning from nursery level have better chances of being able to grasp lessons later in life,’’ stated Dr Bilal.
In most remote parts of Tanzania, children usually by-pass early childhood (kindergarten) level of education going straight to class one (primary), nursery schools are also lacking in rural areas but are abundant in towns.
Mr Bilal hinted that his government would increase the number of female students in higher institutions of learning to reach at least 45 per cent and he maintained that his government will be able to accomplish that by ensuring that the poor girls, who do well in school but lack money, are sponsored to pursue further education.

Obama salutes Kikwete over Zanzibar
Dr Shein calls for unity among CCM members
CCM’s presidential candidate for Zanzibar, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, has called on party members in the islands to unite in efforts to end rifts ahead of October 31 general elections.
Dr Shein said that unity within the party was crucial despite the fact that CCM victory in the elections was ‘certain.’ Addressing party supporters and members, Dr Shein asked them to support him and abandon conflicting groups for the interest of the party. “It is obvious that everyone has own preference for councillorship, House of Representatives, Union Member of the Parliament and Zanzibar presidency. “Fortunately, the process to choose our candidates is over, let us now unite with the desire to win the next elections,” Dr Shein told the gathering at Bwawani Hotel in the Stone Town. Dr Shein who is expected to pick nomination forms at the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) today, said he was a person of few words but a committed person who shows his competency by practice. He warned he would not hesitate to fire any leader in his government who puts personal interest first. “I am not a person who speaks a lot. I am a man of actions. I am ready to serve Zanzibaris to their expectations as per the party manifesto which is ready and will be made public during campaign time,” said Dr Shein amid cheers from the gathering. “I am disturbed with news that some houses have been damaged by home made bombs, people are beaten or live in fear. Let us put aside our differences which emerged during the nomination period and work as a team for CCM’s victory,” he said. Several ministers from both union and Zanzibar governments attended the meeting.

CCM has picked Dr Ali Mohamed Shein as the party's presidential candidate for Zanzibar.
THE National Executive Committee of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM-NEC) Friday night overwhelmingly elected the Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, as the ruling party’s presidential candidate for Zanzibar. Dr Shein scooped 117 votes, beating by far the former Zanzibar Chief Minister, Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, who garnered 54 votes. The Chief Minister, Mr Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, managed 33 votes. The results culminated the hot race that involved 11 presidential nominees who were trimmed down to five before being pruned to three. Others in the list were the Deputy Chief Minister Ali Juma Shamuhuna, Zanzibar Education and Vocational Training Minister Haroun Ali Suleiman, prominent businessman Mohammed Raza Dharamshi, Chumbuni MP Omar Sheha Mussa and a civil servant, Mr Hamad Bakar Mshindo. The rest were Mr Mohamed Yussuf Mshamba, Ambassador Ali Karume and the Deputy Minister for East African Cooperation, Mr Mohamed Aboud Mohamed. Speaking shortly after the election, Dr Shein promised to strengthen the Union and promote unity and peace in the Isles. He also said that he would lead the country with wisdom, promising speedy development in Zanzibar in collaboration with President Jakaya Kikwete. Dr Shein thanked CCM members for electing him, saying all nominees had competence and merits to be flag bearers of the party in Zanzibar presidential race.
