Makamba warns unfaithful CCM members

CCM Secretary General Yusuph Makamba this week warned fellow members including district and regional leaders reportedly engaging in illegal distribution of membership cards, conducting underground campaigns, saying that they would be sanctioned.
“Our party’s manifesto, regulations and policy stress the need for solidarity, transparency… this is what all officials irrespective of their positions in the party should stand for,” Makamba said.
Speaking in Moshi he said such leaders could be expelled from the party, pointing out that he has received complaints, calling for solidarity and team work in strengthening the party from the grassroots level.
The Secretary General said: “Measures will be taken against those are out to tarnish the good reputation that CCM has been proud of for years.”
Makamba distributed CCM membership cards to some 152 new members who have joined the party from various parts of Kilimanjaro Region.
According to the party’s National Executive Committee( NEC) , members wishing to cast votes during the nomination process must possess the voter’s card provided by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The party organ said only active CCM members, implying those who have paid membership fees will be allowed to participate in the opinion poll in search for CCM candidates for elective posts during the general elections in October.
According to NEC, CCM members will cast votes to decide on their candidates on August 8 in all its branches. The ruling party has close to five million members.
The conditions have been set to enable all party members exercise their democratic right of participating in the nomination process but responsibly.
